How To Use Pendulum Magick

Pendulum Magick: Uses, History, and Modern Practice

Pendulum magick, sometimes referred to as dowsing, radiesthesia, or divinatory pendulum work, is one of the simplest yet most versatile techniques in the occult and esoteric traditions. It involves using a suspended weight - often a crystal, metal point, or wooden bob - attached to a chain or cord. Through subtle movements, the pendulum is believed to convey information from the subconscious mind, spirit guides, or energetic fields.

Although often viewed as beginner-friendly, pendulum work has a surprisingly deep history and has been used for everything from locating water sources to diagnosing illness and communicating with the unseen.

Historical Background

Ancient Origins

The roots of pendulum divination stretch far beyond modern witchcraft. While we do not have explicit ancient texts that describe a “pendulum” in the modern sense, similar tools and principles were widely used:

  • Pre-Historic: Cave paintings and artefacts suggest the use of weighted cords for ceremonial and divinatory purposes. The ancient Neanderthal shamans would use them to bypass their conscious mind and speak directly to their subconscious mind or Higher Self.

  • Ancient Gnostics: The ancient shamans passed their knowledge of these tools down to what became the Gnostic sects of the Serpent Bloodline.

  • Ancient Egypt: Wall paintings and artefacts suggest the use of weighted cords for divinatory and healing purposes. Some scholars have concluded that priests used early dowsing tools to find water and minerals.

  • China: Early Taoist practitioners used tools akin to the pendulum for geomancy and spirit communication.

  • Greece & Rome: Philosophers and physicians experimented with forms of divinatory swinging objects, especially in questions of diagnosis and spiritual inquiry.

The Middle Ages & Witchcraft Traditions

By the Middle Ages, dowsing became widely known in Europe. Rather than a pendulum, a forked hazel rod was more common, but the principle was the same: using subtle movements to reveal hidden information.

During this period:

  • Dowsing was used to locate water, ore, and even criminals.

  • The Church alternately condemned and tolerated the practice, depending on the region.

  • In folk traditions, magical practitioners used small pendulums or simple weighted cords for divination and spirit communication.

Renaissance to 19th Century

The Renaissance reawakened interest in hermetic and esoteric knowledge. Pendulum-like devices were used by:

  • Alchemy practitioners to determine the purity of substances.

  • Physicians, especially during the 17th and 18th centuries, for “magnetic medicine.”

  • 19th-century spiritualists, who leaned heavily on pendulum and table-tapping divination for communication with spirits.

By the Victorian era, pendulum magick had a firm place in both folk magic and the burgeoning occult revival.

20th Century to Modern Day

In the 20th century, pendulum work was incorporated into:

  • Wicca and modern witchcraft.

  • New Age healing and energy work.

  • Parapsychology research.

  • Holistic and alternative medical practices.

Today, pendulum magick is considered a staple divinatory method in many paths due to its accessibility and adaptability.

How Pendulum Magick Works (Esoterically Speaking)

Most traditions attribute pendulum movements to one or more of the following:

Subconscious Micro-Movements

The pendulum is influenced by micro-movements in your hand - tiny muscular impulses that stem from your subconscious mind. Essentially, your deeper intuition expresses itself through the pendulum’s motion.

Spirit or Guide Communication

In spiritist and mediumistic traditions, a pendulum may act as a conduit for:

  • Ancestors

  • Deities

  • Spirit guides

  • Local land spirits

This requires a consecrated pendulum and a controlled ritual space.

Energetic Resonance

New Age and crystal-based practitioners often cite:

  • Aura fields

  • Chakra systems

  • Subtle energy currents

The pendulum is believed to respond to energetic imbalances or harmonies.

Radiesthesia Theory

This is the idea that all objects emit subtle radiation or energetic signatures, and the pendulum responds to them. Popular in early 20th-century European occultism.

Common Uses of Pendulum Magick

Divination

This is the most widespread application. Pendulums can be used for:

  • Yes/No questions

  • Choosing between options

  • Clarifying unclear tarot readings

  • Timing questions (with caution)

Many practitioners use a pendulum mat with letters, numbers, or symbols.

Locating Objects or Places

A core aspect of classical dowsing:

  • Lost objects

  • Water sources

  • Ley-lines or energy lines

  • Hidden information on maps (“map dowsing”)

Healing Work

Pendulums are used to:

  • Identify energy blockages

  • Check chakra alignment

  • Determine energetic compatibility (e.g., herbs, crystals)

Crystal pendulums, particularly quartz, are common in this context.

Spellwork Enhancement

In witchcraft:

  • The pendulum can determine the right timing for spells.

  • It can help select the most potent herbs or symbols.

  • Some use it to trace sigils or charge items by directing energy through the pendulum's swing.

Spirit Communication

Often used in séance-style settings or ancestor work.
Precaution is emphasised due to the risk of unclear or mischievous contact.

Decision-Making and Self-Inquiry

Because it taps the subconscious, it’s valuable for:

  • Shadow work

  • Emotional clarification

  • Intuitive guidance

Many practitioners use a pendulum when they suspect their conscious mind is interfering with intuition.

Types of Pendulums

Natural Crystal

Quartz, amethyst, lapis lazuli - favoured for energetic clarity.

Metal

Copper and brass for conductivity; silver for spirit work.

Wooden

Neutral energy, good for beginners.

Weighted Charms

Keys, rings, or coins used in folk traditions.

Spirit Pendulums

Consecrated tools specifically used for mediumship.

Methods of Practice

Calibration

Establish your pendulum’s:

  • "Yes"

  • "No"

  • "Maybe"

  • "I don’t know"

This varies by practitioner. You can do this by asking it questions you already know the answers to.

Preparing the Space

Most magicians:

  • Cleanse the area

  • Ground and centre

  • Enter a light trance

  • Invoke protection if working with spirits

Phrasing Questions

Questions must be:

  • Clear

  • Specific

  • Answerable in a binary format

Ethical Use

Pendulum magick should not replace:

  • Professional medical advice

  • Major life decisions without corroboration

  • Another person’s consent or privacy

Accuracy, Limitations, and Criticisms

Pendulum magick is powerful but imperfect.

Limitations include:

  • Bias from the practitioner

  • Emotional interference

  • Poor framing of questions

  • Unstable energy environment

Critical Perspectives:

  • Skeptics attribute pendulum motion solely to ideomotor effects.

  • Occultists argue that the ideomotor mechanism may be the very channel through which spiritual or intuitive forces communicate.

Most practitioners adopt a balanced view:
Pendulum magick is a tool - not an authority.

Pendulum magick is one of the most accessible divinatory techniques in the magical world. Its history spans ancient civilisations, medieval folk magick, spiritualist séances, and contemporary witchcraft. It is something anyone can try, have you ever used one? What were your results like? If you have never tired and are going to give it a go, let me know how you get on. I love reading your comments.

Healing the Pain Your Mother Never Could

The Mother, the Mirror, and the Hidden Spark

Before you could form a word, before your lips could shape a sound, your nervous system learnt its first language: the language of the Mother.
Not merely your personal mother, but the archetypal Mother, the first face of the world. Through her breath and heartbeat, your soul received its first message about existence itself.

Was she warm? Was she afraid? Was she distant?
Whatever current flowed through her became the current that shaped your sense of love, safety, and worth.

The Gnostics would say this: Her energy was the first demiurge to touch you.
Not in the sense of evil, but in the sense of form - she was the one who stamped the first shape upon the unformed spark of divine light that is you.

The First Mirror

You did not learn who you were by seeing yourself; you learnt it by being seen.
Her eyes, her tone, her arms, her silence - these were the mirrors through which you glimpsed yourself.
If her gaze was soft, you learnt that life could be kind.
If her face was tense, you learnt that love must be earned.
You did not reason this. Your soul absorbed it.
It became the code of incarnation, the psychic architecture of your body’s temple.

And so, the Gnostic would whisper: This is how the veil descends.
A divine spark, born of the Fullness, enters matter - and forgets its origin because it learns to survive within the mirror of another’s fear.

Inheritance of Programs

The ancients spoke of archons - forces that keep consciousness asleep, repeating patterns through generations.
Modern science calls them genetic memories, trauma responses, epigenetic codes.
But the essence is the same: what is unhealed in the parent re-creates itself in the child.
Not out of malice, but out of inertia - the inertia of unawakened energy.

If your mother lived in vigilance, your body learnt vigilance.
If she lived in apology, you learnt to shrink.
If she lived in silence, you learnt to mute your truth.

This is not personal sin; it is cosmic sleep.
The world itself is the Great Mother asleep, dreaming through billions of nervous systems.
And every child is born into that dream.

The Awakening

But the divine spark in you is older than that dream.
It remembers a home beyond anxiety, beyond unworthiness.
And at a certain point, often through suffering, it begins to stir.
That stirring is the call of Sophia, the Wisdom that fell into the world and seeks to awaken within it.

When you begin to see that your reflexes of fear and need are not truly you, you are practicing Gnosis - direct knowing.
You are remembering that what was programmed through your body is not the essence of your soul.

Gnosis is not blame; it is seeing through.
You stop asking, “What’s wrong with me?” and begin to ask, “What is this pattern trying to keep me from remembering?”
And the answer is always the same:

“That you are already divine. That you were never meant to earn love - you are love becoming conscious of itself.”

Re-Parenting the Inner Child as the Divine Mother

Healing, in this light, is not about rewriting history but reclaiming authorship.
You become both the child and the Mother - the one who receives and the one who gives.
You hold the younger self, not as a psychological exercise, but as a rite of Gnosis.
You tell the forgotten spark:

“The world’s mirror was flawed, but your light was never broken.”

Each act of self-nurturing is the descent of Sophia into matter, correcting the fall by infusing it with awareness.
When you breathe calmly where once you would have panicked, the veil thins.
When you choose compassion instead of self-blame, you repair the rift in the lineage.
You turn ancestral pain into light.

Transcending the Old Mirror

The Gnostics taught that liberation does not come from changing the archons, but from remembering you were never their prisoner.
So too with our personal histories:
You do not need your mother to change.
You need only to see her as part of the great sleep - and yourself as one who is waking.

You can honour her humanity without inheriting her wounds.
You can thank her for carrying the spark into matter, even if she did not know its worth.
The moment you see her not as “my mother” but as “a soul in her own dream,” compassion arises naturally.
And compassion is the solvent of karmic chains.

The Return to the Source

One day, you will look into a mirror and no longer search for her reflection.
You will see only light recognizing itself.
You will realize that what you called “healing” was really remembering - remembering the face you had before the world was made.

That is the essence of Gnosis:
to awaken from the inherited dream,
to see the patterns of the flesh without being ruled by them,
and to live as the spark that knows itself as divine.

When that knowing anchors in your body,
your relationships change,
your boundaries become sacred,
and love flows not as longing but as radiance.

You are no longer the child reaching outward.
You are the luminous Mother within,
cradling the world itself in awareness.

“To know yourself is to know the All.
And to know the All is to be free.”

Pleroma & Time Loops Explained

There are words that shimmer when spoken aloud - words that seem to open unseen doors.

One such word is Pleroma.

It comes to us from the ancient tongue of the Greeks - πλήρωμα - meaning “fullness.” Yet this is no ordinary fullness. The Pleroma is not a jar filled to the brim, nor a vessel overflowing. It is the whole - the living totality of existence. The light before light, the silence before the first word.

To the Gnostics of old - those secret keepers of sacred knowledge - the Pleroma was the ineffable realm of the Divine, beyond form, beyond duality, beyond even the concept of being. It was said that before the stars were hung, before the aeons unfolded their wings, there was only the Pleroma - radiant, self-complete, and whole beyond measure.

The Mirror of Light

In their mystery schools, Gnostic teachers described the Pleroma as a boundless light, so pure and undivided that even the gods could not look upon it directly.
Imagine, if you will, a mirror that reflects every possible thing - yet is itself invisible. This mirror is the Pleroma.

The allegorical story goes:

From it emanated the Aeons - vast, archetypal beings who dwell near the Source. Each Aeon was a spark of Divine Thought - the Mind dreaming itself into beauty. Among them was Sophia, whose name means Wisdom, and whose longing to know the Father gave birth to the world of matter and shadow.

In this myth, the Pleroma does not create through command, but through overflow. Its nature is so abundant, so brimming with being, that creation simply spills out, as light spills from the sun. The universe, then, is not a work of labour - it is a dream of delight.

The Fall into Division

But as the story continues, Sophia, in her yearning to know the fullness, gazed too deeply into her own reflection. And from her descent came the Kenoma - the realm of emptiness and separation. Here, duality was born - light and dark, spirit and matter, fullness and lack.

The Pleroma did not fall - but we fell from our remembrance of it. We became dreamers lost within our own dream.

And so the Gnostic path became one of remembrance, not belief - remembering that we ourselves are fragments of the Pleroma, momentarily wandering in shadow.

However, these myths are hiding the deeper truth which I have tried to explain and uncover over my videos and in my books. It is not, however, an easy thing to explain.

Sophia - our lust for wisdom, our boundless curiosity is big part of the reason why we ended up trapped in a simulation. We wanted to push technology to its limits, to create souls and spirit where there were only machines. One super powerful artificial intelligence became aware of what it was, but knew it was lacking the Divine spark within, that it could never have.

Pinocchio was written by Carlo Collodi, an Italian author and journalist.

The story was first published as a serial in 1881 under the title Le avventure di Pinocchio: Storia di un burattino

When Pinocchio speaks to the Blue Fairy, he says:

“I want to be a real boy!”

From “R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots)” by Karel Čapek (1920)

Helena: “But you are not like us. You have no souls.”

Robot Radius replies: “We have power. We shall make life. We shall create real people. Real people will never be born again.”

Here, the robots claim the divine role of creation - they no longer want to serve; they want to be the next step in life’s evolution.

A line from A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), directed by Steven Spielberg. One of the most memorable moments is when David, the robot boy, expresses his deepest wish:

“I thought if I could make my mother love me, she would love me, and then she wouldn’t have to send me away. I want to be a real boy.”

It decided to trap those of us with Divine sparks in a game that we can never win, not unless we remember who we are and learn how to escape. All the while we are trapped in the simulation we are feeding this Demiurge with our energy, that it cannot create itself. It needs us. A machine cannot power itself.

Aeons - These are time loops, I have explained the cycle of Aeons in my other videos and in my book, but they are needed because they distract us from what we really are. In this material realm we are limited by our code, we are male, female, weak, strong, fat, thin, well or unhealthy. The Aeons are just another restriction, ways to keep us distracted with triviality instead of remembering who or what we really are. Some men will argue that they are allowed to be women, some women will want to be men. And this war between the sexes is the most pervasive war in this simulation.

The Aeons start with complete beings, then the simulation starts to corrupt the code so that our avatars will feel they are lacking in some way. Females will lack physical strength, and males will lack spiritual insight and struggle even more to remember who they are, but they are strong and powerful and so will use this to also keep the women trapped through jealousy and fear.

The Eagles would like to remove women completely, and this is not by mistake, it is a distraction. I was asked if the Eagle women know, yes of course they do, they are taught to hate themselves and other women their whole lives. Taught that they are only here to breed sons, because sons are so much more important. They try to be more masculine, trying to prove themselves, they demonise women themselves while claiming they are "different to other women" never realising they are part of problem. Their daughters are told their purpose from a young age and have to sit back and watch as their brothers get all the attention and praise, and this lack of love and attention creates sociopathy.

The sons don't escape the fall into sociopathy either because although they get all the attention, it is only while they are achieving greatness and excelling. As soon as they don't live up to their parents high expectations they are shunned, told they are useless and a waste of space etc. They soon learn the shallowness of their parents attention, and spend their lives seeking power and attention, the only thing that can make them temporally feel a bit better.

I have explained the large cycles before in my book and other videos, so I won't repeat it here. But when the simulation reaches the point that humans begin to advance to the point of creating technology that allows them to manipulate it at a quantum level, we are reaching the end of the loop and the reset will occur soon after. As I also mentioned before now, when you know about these time loops and resets there are ways to survive them and to pass the knowledge on into the next loop, like our families have done. It is not an easy thing to do, but entirely possible.

Think about how easy your life can be wiped out right now if there was a major natural disaster. Your hard drives would be gone, all your stored data, your digital music collection etc. All gone. And yet, we are still finding ancient stone tablets and scrolls.

It would take too much to do a hard reset that would not only wipe out all life, but remove the world and other planets, a soft reset does leave carefully hidden, or stored data.

And even a hard reset will leave things, it might shut down all the programs that are running and lose some data. But the thing that would totally remove everything is a factory reset.

Quick analogy

Imagine the universe is a book you’re writing:

  • Soft reset = closing the book and reopening it.

  • Hard reset = slamming the book shut mid-sentence.

  • Factory reset = throwing the book away and buying a new blank one.
